FountainHohenschwangau is just down the hill from Neuschwanstein and it is where Ludwig grew up. I believe it was his grandfather who built the place. Ludwig's mother was 17 when she married his father who I thought was Maximillian but I'm not sure. Ludwig also had a younger brother, I think his name was Otto but he became mentally ill after fighting in a battle against the French.

This castle while not as extravigant as Neuschwanstein was still pretty incredible. You might have noticed the use of the schwan a few times, schwan in German means swan, swans and peacocks were favorite animals of Ludwig's and in all of the castles there were paintings and other decorations of them. I guess swans were present throughout Richard Wagner's music. I don't know much about Wagner but Ludwig was a huge fan of his and had pianos made for him, playing rooms and I think it was Neushwanstein that was suppose to pay homage to him. I like music and all...but having my house built in homage of Lenny Kravitz, Tom Petty, Dave Matthews???
